D'un monde à l'autre by Hervé Conan

D’un monde à l’autre is a captivating solo exhibition by French artist Hervé Conan, taking place from 13 May to 13 June 2025 at AFKL.

This marks the artist’s first international showcase, offering Malaysian audiences an intimate glimpse into a body of work that bridges the tangible and the abstract, the physical and the emotional. Trained in classical fine arts and influenced by the teachings of master sculptor Francis Pellerin, Hervé Conan brings decades of creative exploration to this exhibition.

His multidisciplinary approach—combining charcoal, watercolour, pastel, bronze, and crystal—reveals a sensitivity to materials and forms that transcend simple representation. Each piece invites the viewer to journey “from one world to another,” engaging with shifting perspectives and hidden layers of meaning.

Through a carefully curated selection of paintings and sculptures, Conan explores themes of transformation, inner life, and the tension between organic and mineral elements. His artworks evoke a sense of stillness and motion, using fluid lines and subtle textures to challenge how we see and feel the world around us. The dialogue between form and empty space becomes a meditation on perception—an invitation to pause, reflect, and connect with deeper, more intangible realities.

About the artist

Born in Saint-Brieuc, France in 1947, Hervé Conan is a painter and sculptor whose work explores the relationship between form, space, and perception. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rennes, he trained under the esteemed sculptor Francis Pellerin before establishing his career as an art teacher in Nantes. He now lives and works in Touraine, France. Conan’s artistic practice spans multiple media—charcoal, watercolour, and pastel for his paintings; bronze and crystal for his sculptures. Rooted in close observation of the natural and organic world, his art invites viewers to look beyond the surface, engaging with a more abstract, emotional interpretation of reality. His work has been exhibited widely across France, and D’un monde à l’autre marks his first international showcase.
